The Moon and Sixpence

h 114 x w 125 cm (45” x 49”)
Wool, linen, cotton, metallic thread, hemp
Tapestry weaving, tufting, wefts over surface and interlaced

The title refers both to the shape of the tapestry and its internal shapes, but also to the novel about a fictional artist based on Paul Gauguin. I have used the type of colours he enjoyed, also using them in large blocks. The theme is “If you look at the ground in search of a sixpence, you don’t look up, and so miss the moon.
